‘Tis the season for giving… This month, consider adding a charity to your “nice” list. If you’re not sure where to start, we've listed a few non-profit organizations that we think are worth checking out. Whether you donate your time, money, or even blood, we hope you’ll join us in sharing the spirit of the season with the cause of your choice.

Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center
Funded in part by its ecotourism activities, the SCLC's programs benefit local residents in the Sarapiquí region of Costa Rica. Programs include a semi-public library that is part of the National Library System, technology classes (as part of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Telecommunications), English classes, and many ad hoc programs. You can also support the SCLC through AmazonSmile; when you list the SCLC as a favorite charity, the AmazonSmile Foundation donates 0.5% of the price of eligible purchases.

Organizations abroad
Our travelers often ask us how they can make a difference in the destinations they visit. If you're planning a trip, consider saving room in your luggage to carry much-needed supplies for schools, medical clinics, or budding naturalists. Programs like Pack for a Purpose connect donors with recipient organizations and help travelers make a positive impact in host communities.

The mission of Books for Africa is to end the "book famine" in Africa by creating a culture of literacy and providing the tools of empowerment to the next generation of parents, teachers, and leaders in Africa. It costs about 50 cents to send a book from the United States to Africa. Books for Africa has shipped more than 36 million books to 49 different countries since 1988.
