Day 5 / June 25, 2013 Today we went back to the clay lick, but this time we went later in the morning after breakfast, as it was reported to us that during this time of the year the parrots were visiting in the range of 10 am to 11 am.  This time we had planned well (and were lucky), seeing two Scarlet Macaws at the lick, but no more than that. It was great to watch them as they cautiously took turns at the lick; one eating and the other in the nearby tree watching for predators! Clay-Lick-Parrot-in-tree After another great lunch at 4 pm, Frank and I left for Refugio with our guide. Shortly after we had stopped at the National Reserve check post, the engine of the boat just quit working. Thankfully the driver had a satellite phone and a boat from Refugio was dispatched. In the meantime an incoming Refugio group, late due to the flooded roads to Infernio, was passing by and picked us up. We hopped on that boat with a group of 20+ guests and continued on in the pitch dark in an impressive rainstorm. Even more impressive was the captain of the boat and his ability to navigate that river full of floating hazards of all sorts! But I love rainstorms so much, that despite the cold of the night and rain, I really enjoyed this particular boat ride! 5-a sundown-river-shot We arrived in time for dinner, which was again delicious. Compared to Amazonia, this lodge is a little nicer, but built in the same design as Amazonia. It was the second one to be built by Eduardo Nycander, who is one of a few that started Rainforest Expeditions and was the architect for both. Due to being the newer of the two, this lodge showcases improvements such as an expansive layout with upstairs for meetings and a children’s area as well as a massage room. No upstairs at Amazonia.  Meals are the same menu at both lodges. Jungle-lodge-entrance-rm Refugio-common-room I went to bed after dinner and had no time to explore further.
