Day 7 / June 27, 2013 We got this day started right off the bat and had the group get up at 5 am so we could visit the oxbow lake in the early morning. After a 530 am breakfast we departed at 6 am for the oxbow lake. After 30 minutes on the lake we saw black caiman and soon after that a family of nine giant otters! This was the first time for me to see Giant Otters and I have traveled to the Amazon basin at least 10 times in the past 20 years. I didn’t get the impression that the girls were as thrilled as I was, but I couldn’t hide my enthusiasm and kept oohing and awing about them! We spent a nice amount of time following them, at a respectable distance, around the lake. On the walk back to the river, we found a humongous snail which was record size for me! It was a day for the books for me! After lunch we had some free time and one of the granddaughters wanted to do the rope climbing excursion. It was being offered and they were willing to pay the $45, so I went with her and grandmother. She was ballerina and all-around athlete and really enjoyed herself. There was a question as to whether this activity was more risky than kayaking, but I don’t think so. This afternoon we took an excursion to a local Infernio farm with one other groups from the lodge. We walked although the different crops and learned a lot about each. At the end of the tour we fed the ducks and the chickens and everyone enjoyed this excursion.
