Marion Grzanowski recently traveled to Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu with Road Scholar. An account of day seven of his journey can be found at 2012-gimp-adventure.blogspot.com/
Read days 6 & 7 here.
Day 8:
As the name suggests, Devil’s Crown makes for an exhilarating snorkeling spot. A variety of fish and even more sea lions are seen at the submerged volcano.
The next visit is made to Post Office Bay, which is the site where whalers used to mail their correspondence. The group continues a long held tourist tradition of collecting and dropping of mail.
Near the Post Office Bay is a tunnel formed by lava flows, where the group enjoys the scenic view of local seabirds and later the Mirador de la Baronesa, a basaltic tuff formation in la Olla Bay.
The submerged volcano has clear blue waters and a variety of colorful fish. Sea lions were seen in the water and seabirds nest in the rock crevices.
Day 9:
A visit to Bahia Ballena's green sand beaches is much enjoyed. Green olivine crystals, formed from volcanic material, give the sand its interesting color.
A hike up to Dragon Hill to view the bay and the Scalesia forest is next on the agenda. Before the group starts the hike they are warned about a special surprise they might encounter along the trail.
What surprise could be waiting for them?
