Professional Development Workshop 2015: June 26-30

Holbrook Travel is now accepting applications for our latest five-day professional development expedition to Costa Rica. Take an adventure to the rainforest to learn about Costa Rica’s ongoing conservation efforts, explore the world of rainforest ecology and its unique wildlife, and gain field experience to apply to your classroom curriculum. FBLS06

This action-packed workshop may be short (June 26-30) but it’s filled with a great deal of activities. You can start off your day by spotting toucans, hummingbirds, and maybe even Great Green Macaws during an early morning bird walk, then attend a field workshop or visit a local pineapple plantation.  Assist the local community with a reforestation project, participate in an interactive cooking class with Sarapiquí locals, and go whitewater rafting on the Sarapiquí River. Each evening, you’ll be able to swap ideas and insights from the day with your fellow educators and wind down with dinner and lecture.

You’ll also have opportunities to further develop the skills needed to organize and lead an international academic expedition for students, including strategies for fundraising and marketing the trip to students, parents, and school administrators.

The program is based at Holbrook’s Selva Verde Lodge and Rainforest Reserve, an eco-lodge that protects 500 acres of primary and secondary rainforest that was recently awarded the fourth level of sustainability by the Costa Rica Tourism Institute Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST).

Best of all, your meals, activities, lodging, and round-trip flights between Miami and San José are included in the price. If you prefer to make your own flight arrangements to San José, your program price will be $649. Additionally, if you bring a group of seven or more students into the field within two years of participation in this program, you’ll receive a $600 credit.  For $999, don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience some of the exciting hands-on activities, expert lectures, and many other field science opportunities that Costa Rica has to offer.  Check out our past blog posts on water samplingFAQs, field journal part onepart two, and part three.
