On Saturday, April 27, people around the world will join together to raise awareness for amphibian conservation. Today marks the fifth annual Save the Frogs Day, started by a nonprofit organization called Save the Frogs.
Save the Frogs attempts to do just that – save the frogs. It was founded in 2008 by ecologist Dr. Kerry Kriger, and is made up of scientists, educators, policymakers and naturalists from around the world. According to the organization, nearly one-third of the 6,485 species on the planet are endangered due to issues such as habitat destruction and pesticides. Not only are frogs important to nature’s food web, but they have also aided in the research and development of pharmaceuticals for humans.
