My trip to Costa Rica leading a group of photographers was one of the highlights of my life. At the time, I had no idea just how special it would become. Pandemic-related travel bans were imposed shortly after our return, making every moment, every new friend, every bird, flower, and meal that much sweeter. Memories have grown so much fonder as I've held onto them, reliving each one over and over.... Standing on the suspension bridge at Selva Verde Lodge high above the mighty Sarapiqui River and the exhilaration of my first crossing into the secondary rainforest at night.... I can close my eyes and hear the water. The birds that gently rose with the sun and greeted us outside our rooms and dining area. The Costa Ricans we met along the way, including our extraordinary guide Erick Guzman, went out of their way to show us the best of their country has to offer. It was truly a privilege to experience this special place. Because of the vision and dedication of Giovanna Holbrook, 500 acres of Costa Rican primary and secondary rainforest was saved from deforestation and today Selva Verde protects hundreds of species of mammals, reptiles, amphibians, plants and birds. Our whole group left inspired, awed, and energized.
