Costa Rica | Study Abroad: Site-based Learning

About this trip

Host a study abroad course at Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve, a 500-acre private tract of tropical lowland primary and secondary rainforest. Thirty years ago, rainforest stretched from Costa Rica’s Central Valley to the Atlantic coast. Today this area is a patchwork of small fincas, agricultural plantations, and a handful of rainforest reserves. Selva Verde is one of those reserves – providing a critical refuge for the many species that depend on the forest for survival. Our private reserve and eco-friendly accommodations are the ideal base camp for educational field programs in ecology, conservation, community development, and culture. In partnership with the Sarapiquí Conservation Learning Center, an on-site non-profit organization, we can help you design a course to meet the academic needs of your group.

Build your trip

We’ll work with you to custom build an itinerary that best suits your educational needs and field-based teaching style. Lectures and activities can vary to cater to different academic levels and subjects. Classroom lectures and discussion sessions can be presented and facilitated by our qualified naturalists who specialize in the flora and fauna of Costa Rica.
