Following breakfast and check-out, travel to Cerro de la Muerte, an area located at the top of the Talamanca Mountain Range that is famous for its diversity of endemic wildlife. Consisting of temperate forest and páramo habitats, the natural vegetation attracts an immense amount of bird life, such as the rare Red-fronted Parrotlet and the photogenic Resplendent Quetzal. Have lunch at Miriam's Quetzals, a local favorite then continue the journey to the cloud forest realm. Following check-in, enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure to explore the new surroundings.
This morning, visit Batsú Gardens, a wonderful location for excellent birding and photography, with magnificent views of the surrounding mountains. Spend the afternoon exploring Savegre's trails, which wind through mostly virgin forest and consist of hundred-year-old trees, multicolored plants, mushrooms, insects, amphibians and mammals. Altitudes vary from 7,220 to 11,384 feet. Savegre is a paradise for birders and known as one of the best places in the country to observe the Resplendent Quetzal. During your stay you will have ample opportunities to photograph hummingbirds. Dinner at Alma de Arbol this evening.
For those who wish to enjoy another early morning birding, you will have the opportunity to do so before breakfast. Following breakfast and check-out, journey back to San Jose, stopping en route at Paraíso Quetzal Lodge for some photography and lunch at their restaurant, Los Colibríes. After spending time at the lodge, continue on to the hotel, with the remainder of the afternoon at leisure before a celebratory farewell dinner in the evening.
